While I hate overenthusiastic reviews where someone “really, really loves this product!”, I am going to have to gush about this puzzle. I do really, really love it.

In the first place, this is a gentle toy. No bright graphic art, just lovely, realistic pictures of animals that you’d expect to see in a good children’s book — the sort you would read to your child before bedtime.

The puzzle pieces are spaced far enough apart to be easy to distinguish, with identical pictures in the “holes”. The knobs on each piece are easy for my two-year-old to grip. The pieces are thick enough to play with on their own, and my daughter loves to use them to play “farm”.

I have four kids, from teen to two, so I’ve seen lots of toys come and go. My kids abandon most of their toys after a few weeks because they either get bored with them, or the toys get broken. I think this one is sturdy enough not to break and is just right for that wonderful imaginative play that keeps a toy interesting for a long period of time. It is a keeper! Forgive me for gushing!

If you want to scare the daylight out of your guests, keep one of these in their room. When they go to sleep and turn the lights out – all the animals sound off in unison, they would never suspect the harmless looking peg puzzle for the noise it makes. Even with the pieces in place, it starts making the “farm animal” noise when the lights are turned on/off.

My son got 2 of these puzzles for Christmas. . . . and they are not worth the extra money for the sound. They are controlled by light sensitive technology, so even when the pieces are in place, they make noise if I turn off the lights or a shadow walks by. We took the batteries out, they were so disruptive and scared our son when they randomly went off. Just buy the regular peg puzzles, they are just as effective, and not annoying like these!

This was a great buy from Amazons sale rack at [. . . ] plus free shipping. My 2 year old just loves puzzles and we are certainly fond of Melissa and Doug products. We normally purchase them from Tuesday Morning or our local hobby store because they are usually cheaper.

This puzzle has made my toddler happy. He fits it together then dumps it, repeating the process several times a day. The drawings are realistic and the pegs help little hands fit things in perfectly! We talk about the farm animals, make the sounds, and learn about the colors of the animals.

The smallest piece is about 1 1/2″x2 1/2″. The pegs are not removable even by hands of adults. The company guaranteed non-toxic and child-safe(age 2-4) on the back of this toy. The board and puzzle pieces are thick and very durable. The pictures are colorful and cute. Children show an interest in the farm animals in their early age. I think you can teach these animals to babies and show them how to fit the piece in the spot even they can’t do it themselves. My son is 24 month old, and it’s too easy for him. He still play but just to show me he can do it. I recommend to children, age 12 month and maybe younger with parent’s supervision to prevent from choking just in case. The younger children will need your help to play with this toy anyway. . . . You might be able to find a bargain.
